Beginner

Little to no experience. Here we focus on skills from the ground up; starting with skills such as haltering, leading, grooming, and saddling. The riding skills being taught will include walking, halting, and steering your horse using direct reins. We will also work on basic safety and horsemanship skills, such as reading body language, approaching horses in the pasture, mounting and dismounting, and proper arena and trail etiquette.

Intermediate

Comfortable with all of the above. Rider should be at a point where they can completely prepare their horse before the lesson unsupervised. Rider should feel confident riding through simple patterns at a posting trot, and have the balance to be introduced to cantering/loping. At this level, we focus more on body control as a form of communication with the horse, and work on skills such as yielding the forehand and hindquarters, sidepassing, and backing curved lines.

Novice

Capable and confident with all of the above. Here we focus more on the concepts of pressure and release, and how to guide your horse with neck reining, leg, and seat pressure. Riders should feel comfortable saddling their own horse under supervision and will learn how to bridle. Here, riders will go from being introduced to trotting, all the way to posting smoothly.

Advanced

Rider is capable of all of the above, and understands the concept of leads and lead departures. Rider may have their own horse with specific needs to troubleshoot. At this level, riders will take their horsemanship knowledge to sharpen new skills, such as jumping, roping, speed events, reining and dressage patterns, and navigating obstacle and trail challenges.
